Teddy Bear Ornaments

We made little Teddy Bears to hang on our garland for Christmas 2004. They are in honor of our Honeymoon Bears, BP and CB. This is a great way to use up lots of small pieces of Christmas or holiday fabric. These ornaments can be made very quickly and are safe around small children. Although I hand drew the pattern I used, you can use a favorite teddy bear cookie cutter to make yours. The ornaments make a very cute addition to the ribbon on a Christmas gift and provides a little personally made gift for the recipient.

Materials needed: Christmas or holiday fabric at least 4" x 4"; stuffing; teddy bear cookie cutter; needle and thread; sewing machine.

Instructions:
  • Using the pattern, draw the pattern on the wrong side of a piece of holiday fabric.
  • Place two pieces of fabric with right sides together and pin.
  • Cut out the pattern leaving at least 1/2" of fabric around the outside of the pattern.
  • Using the sewing machine, sew along the pattern line all around the bear, leaving about one inch of unsewn space.
  • Turn the bear right-side out, being careful not to break the seam open.
  • Stuff the bear as full as you would like; the more stuffing, the stiffer the bear will feel.
  • At the opening, tuck the extra fabric inside the bear, and sew the opening shut.
  • Thread about 12" of fishing line onto your needle.
  • At the top of the bear head, draw the needle and fishing line part way through the fabric and stuffing.
  • Take the needle off the fishing line and tie the fishing line together to form a loop.
  • Hang the bear on your tree or on some garland.
  • Repeat directions to make as many bears as you need.
