Garden Recycling
Recycle Ideas:
- Recycle your yard clippings into your gardens. If you need a “purer” mix, create a compost pile. I typically throw our kitchen waste (no meat products!) directly into the gardens. What the wildlife doesn’t consume composts directly where the plants need the nourishment.
- Old dish pans – I use these several ways in the yard: to move small amounts of dirt, gravel, etc. around the yard; to collect weeds for composting; to “wash” mud from tools; to hold garden tools.
- CDs (especially the unsolicited ones sent in the mail!) – I’ve used these in several ways, one being tying a piece of fishing line to a CD and hanging it in the garden to add some interest and protect plants; they also are great to use under a pillar candle – the light is reflected by the CD.
- Be careful about using your newspaper in the garden as a weed deterrant. Our local newspaper uses a type of ink that can cause problems with our plants. Check with your newspaper to find out the type of inks they use, before you damage your soil!
