The first Colonial American documented marriage was in Virginia in 1609, between Anne Burrows, a maid, and John Laydon, a carpenter.
The first wedding web site was erected in 1870, by George Durand, a Louisiana sugar-cane planter. He wanted to have a memorable entrance for the guests coming to his daughter’s wedding. To this end, he imported South American spiders. The spiders were placed in the oak-trees that lined the drive of his plantation. By the day of the wedding, the spider had spun very elaborate, large webs. Durand had the webs sprinkled with gold dust which shown in the sunlight creating a beautiful entrance way to the wedding.
